In their infancy, specialty coffee shops were coined “penny universities.” The reason being, for a penny or two, patrons could receive a university calibre education through coffee shop conversation. This type of environment was new to Europe as previously most gathering places relied on alcohol to attract patrons. Given this aspect of coffee shop history, it is fitting that Hugo’s Coffee is opening in the same building as Simon Fraser University. In the tradition of Italian cafes, we are dedicated to the coffee shop philosophy in its entirety: delicious drinks, friendly service and inclusiveness. We retail premium coffee, tea, and chocolate based beverages as well as baked goods, sandwiches and merchandise. All Hugo’s Coffee drinks are handmade using only the finest ingredients, artfully combined by expert Hugo’s baristas. Wherever possible, we buy and promote organic, environmentally-friendly, BC made products.
